Triassic


In the beginning of the triassic there were no dinosaurs. There were only very large amphibians and crocodile relatives. It was only in the middle of the triassic that dinosaurs finally started to appear but they were quite different from the more infamous dinosaurs. The first dinosaurs appeared in the area that would become Argentina and they were small. The largest carnivorous dinosaur at this time was Herrerasaurus, which was about the size of a horse. Another dinosaur from this area was the eoraptor, an ancestor to the sauropods, which included apatosaurus, brachiosaurus, diplodocus etc. but eoraptor looked very different from these huge behemoths for eoraptor was about 3-4 feet tall and was an omnivore (almost all other sauropods are strictly herbivores) even eoraptor was slightly disappointing, it was still the beginning of the great sauropods. At this point in time dinosaurs are not the dominant species on earth. The crocodilian relatives were the dominant species. But that would soon change...
